General Terms & Conditions

Eligibility
The Highly Sensitive Person Scholarship from Highly Sensitive Refuge is only open to people who meet all the requirements in the scholarship description. This includes being a current or incoming student (undergraduate or post-graduate) at an accredited college or university within the United States. If you are an incoming student, you must already have been accepted at such an institution, and enrolled or scheduled to enroll in classes within six months of the application deadline.

Proof
At our discretion, we may require you to provide proof of any claims you make, including meeting the eligibility requirements. If you don’t, or if we determine it’s not valid proof, we will disqualify you.

Technical issues
Highly Sensitive Refuge is not responsible for any technical problems (such as issues with email, the application, the website, or other tools) that cause you to miss the deadline or otherwise prevent you from being considered.

How it’s decided
We will consider all applications that meet the requirements and are received on or before the deadline.

Highly Sensitive Refuge will select a scholarship committee to review applications, and that committee alone shall determine the scholarship winner. All decisions by the scholarship committee are final.

Notification
Circumstances permitting, we will choose a winner within 30 days of the scholarship deadline. The winner will be notified. Other applicants will not be notified.

Policy of Non-Discrimination

We wish this went without saying in 2021, but we know it doesn’t — and we’re glad to say it anyway: This is an equal-opportunity scholarship.

We believe diversity makes us stronger, and that voices from marginalized communities deserve — in fact, need — to be heard. We do not discriminate on the basis of sex, gender, gender presentation, race, color, religion, sexual orientation, age, physical or mental disability, or any other protected status.

Your Privacy

Highly Sensitive Refuge won’t share or sell your personal information contained in any scholarship application. It is our policy to use this information only for identifying eligible applicants and determining a winner.

Exceptions:

  • We may publicly announce the winner by name on our website or in other materials, including online, in print, or in other media.
  • We may also publish, reproduce, or publicly distribute the winning essay, or excerpts from that essay, at our sole discretion.

You are agreeing to this usage when you apply for the scholarship.
